Breaking Barriers: Female Entrepreneurs Who Cross Over to Male-Dominated Sectors, a report made under the guidance of the World Bank’s Gender Group. It examines sectoral choice as a factor contributing to the gender gap in firm performance, focusing on female entrepreneurs in both male-dominated and traditionally female-concentrated sectors. The study analyzes the differences in profits between these two groups and identifies factors associated with female entrepreneurs crossing over into male-dominated sectors.
Conducted in ten countries across three regions, the report provides insights into the challenges and opportunities for women entering more profitable sectors. It concludes with evidence-based programs and policies aimed at supporting women in diversifying into sectors traditionally dominated by men, ultimately enhancing their overall business performance.
